A kitchen remodel can completely change the way a home looks, feels, and functions. For this whole-home renovation in Overland Park, Kansas, our team transformed a dark, outdated kitchen into a beautiful, functional space with a redesigned layout, custom cabinetry, and statement-making finishes.
The goal was to create a kitchen that felt more open, offered better storage, and complemented the updated design throughout the rest of the home.
Before: An Outdated Kitchen Ready for a Change
Before the renovation, this Overland Park kitchen featured dark finishes, heavy architectural details, and a layout that wasn't making the best use of the available space.
The original kitchen had two islands that interrupted the flow of the room. While there was plenty of square footage, the existing layout made the space feel more crowded than it needed to.
Heavy trim and columns also contributed to the dated appearance, making the kitchen feel disconnected from the surrounding living spaces.
Our design team saw an opportunity to rethink the entire space, from the placement of appliances to the cabinetry, storage, and overall design.
After: A Completely Reimagined Kitchen Layout
One of the biggest changes in this Overland Park kitchen remodel was the redesigned floor plan.
Rather than simply replacing the existing cabinets and countertops, our team reworked the layout to create a more functional kitchen for everyday living and entertaining.
We relocated the range, introduced a dedicated appliance wall, and redesigned the pantry to improve storage and accessibility. The new layout makes better use of the available space while creating a more natural flow throughout the kitchen.
Removing outdated architectural details also helped open up the room, allowing the new finishes and custom cabinetry to take center stage.
Custom Kitchen Cabinetry and Warm, Neutral Finishes
Custom cabinetry plays a major role in this Overland Park kitchen renovation.
Full-height cabinetry in a warm taupe finish provides plenty of storage while giving the space a clean, cohesive appearance. A contrasting stained wood island adds warmth and creates a natural gathering spot in the center of the kitchen.
Light quartz countertops balance the darker wood tones and keep the overall design feeling fresh.
The combination of painted cabinets, stained wood, and carefully selected finishes creates a timeless kitchen design that feels elevated without being overly formal.
A Statement-Making Calacatta Viola Marble Backsplash
One of the standout features of this kitchen remodel is the Calacatta Viola marble backsplash.
Installed behind the range, the marble extends all the way to the ceiling, creating a beautiful focal point. Its dramatic veining adds movement and contrast against the softer cabinetry finishes.
An arched detail frames the range area, bringing an architectural element into the design and making the marble stand out even more.
It's a great example of how thoughtful material selections can make a major impact in a kitchen renovation.
Thoughtful Kitchen Storage and a Custom Beverage Center
A beautiful kitchen should work just as well as it looks.
Along with the updated layout, our team incorporated custom kitchen storage solutions designed around the homeowners' needs. The reconfigured pantry, appliance wall, and cabinetry help keep everyday essentials organized and accessible.
A dedicated beverage center with glass-front upper cabinets adds another functional feature while providing an opportunity to display glassware and decorative pieces.
These details make the kitchen more practical for daily use while also creating a welcoming space for entertaining.
