Today, we’re diving into a recently completed primary bathroom remodel in Shawnee, Kansas that combines spa-worthy functionality with high-end design and modern finishes.
Before:
This primary bathroom had plenty of square footage however needed an update to feel more modern and refreshed.
Like many homes we see during bathroom remodeling in the Kansas City area, the space was filled with heavy corner mirrors, dated cabinetry, and an oversized tub deck wrapped in busy tile. While the layout functioned, the finishes and scale of everything made the room feel dark, crowded, and visually overwhelming.
The homeowners wanted this Shawnee bathroom remodel to feel calm & bright.

Before construction began, our Renovating KC design team created a material palette that would completely transform the feel of the room without changing the footprint. This is a common strategy we use in primary bathroom remodels in Overland Park, Leawood, and across the Kansas City metro. We aim simplify the visual noise and introduce warmth, texture, and intentional contrast.
Key design elements included:
Lighting: Sealed brass vanity lights and sconces to introduce warmth
Mirrors: Black oval mirrors for contrast and modern shape
Hardware: Honey bronze/brass knobs tying into the lighting palette.
Countertops: Drift Sand Quartz for subtle movement and softness
Every finish was intentionally selected to create a curated look.

The bulky mirrors and heavy soffits were removed. The oversized tiled tub deck was eliminated. In its place, clean lines, warm custom cabinetry, and open counter space immediately made the room feel larger and brighter.
The new vanity stretches the length of the wall, providing generous storage while showcasing the warmth of the cabinetry against the light quartz countertop. The trio of oval mirrors and brass lighting create a symmetrical focal point that feels custom and intentional.
